My parents brought down my old copy of A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein in a stack of old books for the Jude. Oh how I loved this book. I loved it's funny little off-beat kid-stories and pen and ink illustrations. I read it cover to cover a million times. There are check marks penciled in next to every poem, to show that I read them each, in turn.

Part of the reason I loved it so much was that it was one of my Dad's favorite books to read together too. That and T.S. Elliot's Cats. Bedtime books, good memories. The kind I can't wait to share with the Jude, with the very book and I read so many times.

When I went to slide it into Jude's bookshelf a worn scrap of paper fell out of the book onto the floor...

It reads:
My book report is on Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein.
I enjoyed reading it because all the poems are funny, the are about make believe things and kids.
I would like to read a few of my favorite poems for you.
